Pear, Apple or Hourglass?

body shape

The key to looking and feeling great when it comes to fashion is knowing your body shape well and choosing clothes which flatter your figure. If you are unsure as to what your body shape is, use our guide to find out:

Apple

You are predominantly in proportion but tend to carry weight around your midriff without a well-defined waist. Go for clothing that avoids adding volume to your mid-section but shows off other areas such as your legs, arms and bust. Why not opt for bright high-waisted trousers which are all the rage right now and have the added benefit of tucking away tummies. Empire line and longer length tops are also good. If you are petite and require plus size clothing, take from the same trend and invest in a pair of plus size trousers from online retailers such as Marisota http://www.marisota.co.uk/. Marisota offers petite length plus size womenswear in a variety of leg lengths and sizes from 12 to 32.

Pear

You are bottom-heavy – bigger around the hips, bottom or thighs than you are on top. The majority of women are pear-shaped and many are lucky enough to have a flat stomach, too. Be proud of your womanly curves and show them off with clothes which add more shape and structure to your top half. Balance out your bottom half with bright tops.

Strawberry

You have a bigger upper body than your lower body due to broad shoulders and/or large boobs in relation to your waist and hips. Soften your athletic figure with fuller skirts and wide leg trousers, preferably in a bold colour.

Hourglass

You have a voluptuous figure that goes in at the middle, usually with a small waist but fuller bust and bottom. Show off your sexy figure with wrap dresses, waist-clinching belts and flared or wide leg jeans.

Rectangle

You have a slender figure that is fairly straight up and down. If you want to create more curves opt for a structured coat that nips you in with a belt. Meanwhile, high-necked tops are flattering if you have a small bust.
